Today’s Reading:
1 Samuel 22
Psalm 90
The prophet Gad told David, “Don’t go back to the cave. Go to Judah.” David did what he told him. He went to the forest of Hereth.
1 Samuel 22:5 MSG
I heard the Spirit of the Living God say,
My grace is sufficient for you to make changes, to change and to be changed. I did not leave you in one place, stagnant, stuck and struggling. My grace enables you to see the truth, to repent, to walk in My mercy and goodness and to move forward changed. Don’t cling to the old ways. Don’t go back to that place where you have grown comfortably stuck and hidden. I’m calling you out into the light, out into the place that is resourced and equipped.
For all of our faults and flaws are in full view to you. Everything we want to hide, you search out and expose by the radiance of your face.
Psalms 90:8 TPT
I have not called you to remain hidden forever, and you have stayed in this place much longer than you should have. The word is out. Come out from the place where you have been comfortably stuck, and go uncomfortably in My strength, with My Hand into the new place, into the light of My glory and into the place where My glory dwells. I Am calling you out from the cave and into the light. What was meant to be a respite, a recharge, a moment of rest became a hideout and a place where you have gotten yourself stuck. My grace is here for the unsticking. But you must grab hold of it, and you must come out from that hiding place and walk with Me into the light. My grace is here to walk you out into the place of new community, of new blessing, of new life. But it will not come to you in this cave in which you have been dwelling. This cave that has gone from being a respite to a place of being stuck.
Help us to remember that our days are numbered, and help us to interpret our lives correctly. Set your wisdom deeply in our hearts so that we may accept your correction. Return to us again, O God! How much longer will it take until you show us your abundant compassion? Let the sunrise of your love end our dark night. Break through our clouded dawn again! Only you can satisfy our hearts, filling us with songs of joy to the end of our days. We’ve been overwhelmed with grief; come now and overwhelm us with gladness. Replace our years of trouble with decades of delight.
Psalms 90:12-15 TPT
Unstick yourself with My grace and don’t go back there. It’s time to leave the cave behind completely. You have overstayed your time there, and it has cost you greatly. My grace can cover that too, but hear Me. Walk out into the light. Be in the light. Be available. Be accessible. I have equipped you to operate in stealth mode even in the light. I have equipped you to go off the beaten path, even in the light. You don’t need to hide in the cave to do that. Come out. Come out into the light, and leave those cave dwelling days behind forever.
How to Respond
- Respond to the Lord’s instruction to move from the place you have been hiding, and come out into the light. It takes acknowledgement, repentance and action.
- Pray, Thank You Lord for Your great grace, for Your faithfulness and for Your correction and instruction. Help me to leave this place that started as a resting place and become a cave that I hid in and in which I have gotten stuck. I don’t want to be comfortably stuck anymore. I want to be out in the light where You have called me to be.
- Declare, O Lord our God, let your sweet beauty rest upon us. Come work with us, and then our works will endure; you will give us success in all we do.
Psalms 90:17 TPT - Decree, I have overstayed my time in the cave of my hiding. I repent for allowing the place and time that the Lord provided for respite and recovery to become a place that I grew comfortable, lethargic and stuck. I will not stay here one more minute. I will walk in the light. I will come out and be where the Lord has called me to be. I will walk through and deal with the discomfort, because obedience to the Lord is more important to me than comfort.
